It is difficult to assign precise reasons to the heavy fall in markets, but weak overseas markets may have likely resulted in this sharp fall in Indian markets. Global markets have turned weak likely on the back of concerns of monetary tightening in China and further weakness in some of the European economies.

Japanese benchmark index Nikkei 225 fell 30.41 points or 0.31% to settle at 9,797.10. Hong Kong's Hang Seng declined 334.16 points, or 1.39%, to close at 23,693. China's Shanghai Composite decreased 119.88 points, or 3.98% to settle at 2,894.54.
